Sewage problem forces students out of SMU dorm

Repairs to a sewer line sent some SMU students packing and leaving the dorm they moved into only days ago.

The new dorm called Virginia-Snider Commons was cleared out. Some classes were canceled as well.

"Our RA came running down the halls banging on everybody's door, telling them to check their emails. I read my email and saw we were getting displaced for the night so I had to shower somewhere else today," said Ben Hornton, a student who lives in the dorm.

The university said the repairs likely won't be complete until Friday. It plans to keep students and staff updated by e-mail or on social media.
