Senior citizens help Dallas students learn cursive

Some senior citizens at a Dallas senior living community have a unique pen pal partnership going with local third graders.

The seniors at Presbyterian Village North are writing cursive letters back and forth to the students at Good Shepherd Episcopal School.

The exercise helps the students learn and practice cursive.

Teachers at the school were worried the lack of exposure to cursive would prevent the students from reading some historical documents.

Students are encouraged to write about lessons from school or activities in their own life.

Studies show cursive can help with brain development as well as assist with fine motor skills.
