School starts for one North Texas school district

Students in Commerce returned to class Monday morning.

Commerce ISD is the first in North Texas to start school. The district is about 65 miles northeast of Dallas.

Pre-K students started their day around 7:30 a.m. High school cheerleaders welcomed them at the door and as usual, some parents had a hard time saying goodbye.

“He’s been ready for a year. And this morning he got up at 5:30 saying, ‘Mommy, let’s go to school.’ I’m like, ‘No, you don’t go to school until 7:30.’ And already I thought that he was going to cry. Nope. He went into his classroom and he said, ‘I’ll see you later, Mom.’ I wanted to cry, but I’m not going to,” Lacye Poston said.

Some other North Texas school districts start next week. Most of the larger districts start on either Aug. 21 or Aug. 28.
