Alpine PD: Truck may be linked to woman's disappearance

The Alpine Police Department wants to know a specific vehicle's movements on the morning of a Keller woman's disappearance.

Investigators seized a grey 2005 Ford F-150 with a "U Construction" magnetic decal on the driver's side. Police say they want to know if anyone saw the truck during the early morning hours of Oct.12. They say the magnetic decal could have been removed.

The reward for information leading to the location of a missing North Texas student studying in Alpine was increased to $100,000.

Police said they have a person of interest in the case of a missing 22-year-old Zuzu Verk, but that person, her boyfriend, is not cooperating and now has a lawyer.

Law enforcement officials in Alpine, Texas address the media Friday morning and posted on Facebook that they’re holding out hope for finding Verk alive. They say nothing leads them to believe otherwise.

"At this point, we are still believing that she is alive. We're hoping for the best outcome. We want to return her safely to her family," said Alpine Police Chief Russell Scown.

Verk grew up in Coppell and graduated from Timber Creek High School in Keller. She moved to Alpine to study conservative biology at Sul Ross University.

She was last seen on Oct. 12 in Alpine. She was reported missing after she missed work and didn’t show up for a mid-term exam.

Police there have searched over 400 square acres in the air, on foot and on horseback for her. On Friday, students, faculty and staff from the university joined in the voluntary search coordinated through police.

The Texas Rangers, Homeland Security and FBI are also involved in the investigation.
