Rain can't keep fans away from TMS

NASCAR fans by the thousands are gathering at Texas Motor Speedway for a big weekend race. But it could soon be a wet and muddy experience.

Most of the speedway’s eight campgrounds are unpaved. With heavy rain in the forecast, that means some vehicles will likely get stuck in the mud.

FOX 4’s Dan Godwin talked to a few campers about what the weather might bring.

“We’ve been expecting it since we got here,” said Johnny Warborg. “We haven’t put up any awnings or anything. We’re just going to let the rain get done.”

Security officials at TMS said they have detailed emergency plans in place to deal with any significant weather events.

The racing starts Friday night and continues Saturday and Sunday. More crowds are expected because this weekend marks the last time Jeff Gordon will compete at the track.
