DALLAS - Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price says he has put the heated exchanged between himself and former Dallas City Council member Dwaine Caraway behind him.
Also Tuesday morning extended clips were released, and Caraway told FOX 4 he “blew it,” but with good reason.
The fight broke out Monday afternoon as the men were discussing their campaigns on KHVN Gospel Radio. During a commercial break, Price and Caraway’s exchange escalated to shouting, shoving and accusations of infidelity between Price and Caraway’s wife.
Video of the incident was recorded by one of Micah B. Phillips’ staff members. Phillips, who is also a candidate for Dallas County Commissioner’s Court District 3, shared it with the media.
Both Price and Caraway today agreed the infidelity accusation in that video had nothing to do with Caraway's current wife, former State Rep. Barbara Mallory Caraway, who's also running for office.
Barbara Mallory Caraway says she is not getting in the middle of the argument, but that she is proud of her husband for defending his family.
“I apologize for this thing having degenerated into these kinds of episodes. It’s a real mark if you will on the community. So I just apologize. That’s all I can do,” Price said.
Caraway said there was a good reason for his behavior.
“I blew it yesterday. But I blew it for cause and reasons of overly passion. But at the end of the day, he had my campaign worker by the throat,” he said.
Police are looking into that claim that Price put his hands on Caraway’s staff member. Additional video released by Phillips appears to show Price grabbing a man wearing a gray hoodie.
"John Wiley Price had my campaign worker by the throat, picking him up out of the air and it caused a reaction from me - an overreaction," Caraway said.
Price was non-comital when asked if he had attacked the Caraway staffer.
"I do not recall, I mean in the heat of everything that was going on," Price said. "I think there was only one time that you know I think I kind of stood up. But for the most part, you know, I never advanced on Mr. Caraway. Whoever else i might have touched, I'm unaware but I never advanced on Mr. Caraway."
Meanwhile, Phillips said he has been getting death threats since releasing the first clip.
