Arlington police are looking for a robbery suspect who stole a 65-year-old man’s wallet and knocked him unconscious.
Skip Pepe says he was walking in Cravens Park two weeks ago in the middle of the day when a young man pulled a gun on him. His says the man quickly turned violent. Police are still looking for the suspect.
At first he thought the young man with the gun was joking.
"I looked at him and said, ‘Get the hell out of here,’” Pepe said. “I was trying to make my way not running but walking real fast and I'm waving and I'm trying to wave him down and say, ‘Stop! Stop! I'm being robbed! Help me! Help me!’ And that's the last thing I remember."
Arlington police say Pepe was assaulted and robbed. He was bleeding on his brain, numerous scrapes and bruises and had three fractured ribs. He says he may have been dragged.
Pepe’s wife, Barbara, used to walk with him. But now, both are scared to even leave the house.
"I look at my husband and I can't get the anger out of me,” she said. “How dare somebody do this to another person?"
Arlington Police released a sketch of the attacker from the witness who found Pepe. Officers are now stepping up patrols near the park.
“We have close patrol, both in cars and on foot,” said Sgt. Vanessa Harrison. “We have canvassed the area. We talked to witnesses, and we're really determined to get this guy."
"We got to find this man we. Wot to get him off the streets,” Barbara said. “He's going to hurt somebody else."
“To me, it was attempted murder not assault,” Pepe said.
The suspect is described as a light-skinned African-American male who is between 17 and 21 years old. He weighs about 150 to 160 pounds and was wearing a gray or white shirt with basketball shorts.
Police believe he may have been working with a second suspect who is described as a 25 to 30-year-old white male with blonde hair. He was wearing a gray t-shirt and riding a forest green mountain bike.
Anyone with information about either suspect is asked to call the Arlington Police Department or Det. John Henry at 817-459-5312.
