Two police departments came together Saturday night for some friendly hockey competition, and to raise money for the families of two officers.
Home Depot loss prevention officer Scott Painter was injured in a shooting last month. The shooting also killed Officer Rogelio Santander and injured Officer Crystal Almedia.
Painter made an appearance during the game benefiting them at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter. The event was all about teamwork.
DPD has said Painter, although not a peace officer, is now part of their team. Still bandaged, Painter dropped the puck at the game between FWPD and DPD. He was released from the hospital several days ago.
Painter tells FOX 4 all things considered, he’s doing great and his family has been impressed with his recovery.
The hockey game benefitted all three families impacted by the April 24th shooting with proceeds from tickets and raffles being donated.
“Of course it's more special when we're able to do it to benefit the families that quick with all the costs and everything,” said Fort Worth Police Officer Ryan Timmons.
Though the families are getting a lot of support, this money will also get to them quickly to help out.
