Police: Fake cop stopped woman in Little Elm

Police are looking for a man who is impersonating an officer in Denton County.

A woman said she was pulled over Sunday evening on Wynfield Road in Little Elm, east of Denton. She said the man was not wearing any police paraphernalia and seemed suspicious.

He’s described as a white or Hispanic male and in his 20s. He was about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build. He was also wearing blue Dickies-style pants, a blue work shirt and a ball cap.

The man was driving a dark-colored Chevy Suburban with a single red light on the roof. He didn’t have a badge or a weapon and appeared to be wearing fake moustache.

“The victim reports that the individual was even wearing a fake moustache, apparently in an effort to hide his true identity," said Little Elm Police Chief Rodney Harrison. "The fake facial hair appeared to be hurriedly applied, since she could see the tape holding it to his face."

The man ended up returning to his SUV and leaving after the woman asked for his ID. She was not hurt.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Little Elm Police Department or Sgt. Drew Mitchell at 214-975-0460. Drivers can also call 911 if they doubt the legitimacy of any officer pulling them over.

"It is a state felony to impersonate a peace officer, and we take these instances very seriously," Chief Harrison said. "Doing so is not a joke. Anyone playing a prank of this nature is subject to arrest and prosecution."
