Police: Dallas man confessed to suffocating wife to death

Dallas police say a man called 911 about his wife not breathing, but when paramedics and police arrived, he confessed to murdering her two days earlier.

During those two days, his kids and his mother, who were living in the same apartment, had no idea she was dead.

Police say the suspect is 34-year-old Jonathan Edelen. They say he is the one who called first responders to the Primrose Oaks apartments, a senior living community in Oak Cliff, about 3:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say firefighters tried CPR, but noticed rigor mortis had already set in and called police.

According to the arrest affidavit, police say Edelen told them he and his common law-wife, Ceaira Ford, had gotten into a fight on Monday and he suffocated her with a pillow in their bedroom.

Police say he confessed, telling officers "Put the cuffs on me and take me to jail. I killed my wife."

Pamela Edelen, Jonathan's mother, says the couple had been dating for eight years. She says it's been a very rocky relationship and that the two had terrible fights.

The arrest affidavit even describes how Jonathan Edelen pushed Ford over the balcony railing in the moments leading up to him suffocating her with a pillow.

Pamela says Jonathan's young kids, who are 4 and 6 years old, were home when all of this happened. She isn't sure what they may or may not have witnessed.

Those kids are now with the victim's parents.

Pamela says her room is on one side of the apartment, and that Jonathan, Ceaira and the kids stayed in a room on the other side, which is why she says she didn't know Ceaira was dead.
