A Plano Muslim family believes they’re the victim of a hate crime after their home has been vandalized twice in two days.
The home is near a mosque and the homeowner wears a traditional Muslim headscarf. She said she's lived in her new home a little over a month.
The first incident was Tuesday night, when 8 to 10 golf ball size rocks were thrown rapid fire at the back door and side of the house. She also heard banging on the outside walls.
On Wednesday night, a rock the size of a grapefruit was thrown at the window and broke it.
Afraid of retribution, the homeowner asked we not use her name.
“And now you know it's deliberate. Someone is doing this to us on purpose. This is somebody else terrorizing us,” the homeowner said. “I couldn't sleep last night.”
The mom said she and her two children were upstairs at the time of both incidents and no one was hurt.
Plano police said they are investigating, but have not classified the incident as a hate crime. They said they are aware of only one reported criminal mischief incident and there have been no other reported incidents in the area of the home.
The family said they will get alarms and cameras for their home.
