Plano grandmother killed in wreck on Highway 75 in Richardson

A Plano grandmother is dead, and a driver is in jail following a deadly crash on SB 75 in Richardson.


The accident happened around 11:30 Christmas morning.


Richardson police say 23-year-old Atheer Latif, of Plano, was driving a Scion in the far left lanes.


Police say he lost control of his vehicle, hitting HOV dividers, overcorrecting and hitting a Honda Odyssey.


The Honda driver lost control, hitting a retaining wall and flipping over.


Inside that Honda, 63-year-old Madhavi Meharunkar, who died at the scene.


Four other people were in the Honda, including two toddlers.


They survived, but their conditions are unknown.


Police say Latiff continued driving, and evaded people trying to flag him down.


An hour later, he turned himself in, and according to police, he confessed.


He's now charged with criminally negligent homicide.
