Authorities say a pilot has died when his ultralight crashed in a field northwest of Houston.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says the accident happened late Saturday morning near Tomball.

The Federal Aviation Administration says an unregistered ultralight crashed after apparently hitting some trees.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. William Kennard says the pilot died at the scene. His name wasn't immediately released.

Kennard says some construction workers along a highway noticed the aircraft appeared to have problems and saw the ultralight go down.

Kennard says the ultralight took off from a nearby unspecified airport. The sergeant had no additional details on the pilot or which airport he was using.
