Petition asks NorthPark Center to improve security

Shoppers are demanding better security at the upscale NorthPark Center in Dallas.

A group launched an online petition on Change.org. They’re demanding security cameras that actually work and that they are monitored.

In a recent robbery, mall security told the victim the closest camera was not working.

Brittany Arterberry said she was in the parking lot outside Macy’s with her 3-year-old daughter and husband last Wednesday afternoon when three men yelled at her to give up her purse. They sprayed her with pepper spray and tried to throw her in the back of their vehicle.

"By the end of the altercation, my hair was ripped out in pieces on the ground. I was able to finally choke out help and my husband was able to get out of the car and tried to get the attackers off of me but was only able to take one to the ground," she said.

According to police records, it was the third robbery in a NorthPark parking garage since Dec. 23.

The online petition also asks for security escorts at all mall entrances.
