Police are increasing security at Dunbar High School in Fort Worth after a man was shot during a junior varsity football game Thursday night.

Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.

Police said there were 12 to 15 shots fired in the school parking lot. One 18-year-old was hit in the hip and has non-life-threatening injuries.

A Dunbar student told FOX 4 he was about to leave when people started gathering and it looked like a fight was about to break out.

“They pulled in a white car and then they started shooting. And that’s when they took off and everyone started running away this way,” said Johnathon Pollard.

Fort Worth police said before the game started they were notified a fight might happen, so there were extra officers at the field.

The game against Eastern Hills High School was canceled in the third quarter. The opposing team was escorted back to the buses and immediately left.

"If you've ever been on the scene and you've heard shots fired, it's a startling experience. So naturally, we wanted to get the kids safely out of this parking lot and out of the football stadium," said Tamar Vale, a spokeswoman for the Fort Worth Police Department.
