Parts of I-35E to close for weekend bridge demolition

A portion of a major Dallas highway will be shot down this weekend.

FOX 4’s traffic reporter Chip Waggoner said it’s now time to start the work of demolishing the 8th Street bridge.

There’s been some infrastructure work in the area but over the last week crews have actually closed 8th Street over the top of Interstate 35E. That closure will stay in place until December.

But starting Saturday night at 9 p.m. there will be a closure of all of the northbound and southbound main lanes of I-35E approaching 8th Street to demolish that bridge.

The southbound detour will be set up to Jefferson Boulevard and the northbound detour will be in place starting at Marsalis Avenue.

The highway is not scheduled to reopen until 6 a.m. Monday morning.

Also the eastbound LBJ TEXpress lanes near Preston Road will be closed beginning Friday at 9 p.m. towards Park Central Drive. They won’t reopen until 6 a.m. Monday because of extensive roadwork that needs to be done in the area.

The Preston Road ramp going into the TEXpress lanes will also be closed for the project.

There will be closures in the area going westbound starting at Greenville Avenue but they’ll be in the overnight hours and shouldn’t affect drivers during the day.
