Hayden Gatica, 11, and his brother Dakota, 17, will be hitting the road Wednesday morning in their family's brand new RV. They're taking a year-long tour of the 48 continental states.
The boys' parents, Kristy and Jonathan Gatica, say they don't want muscular dystrophy to define their sons.
To pay for the trip, their parents quit their jobs and cashed in their life savings.
"Why work all your life, retire, and then try and travel and do what you want to do when you retire?" said Jonathan. "Why not enjoy the time with your family now?"
Among the family's must-sees are Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Sequoia National Park, New York and Miami.
The family will have a police escort Wednesday morning from the Fort Worth Police Department all the way out to the interstate.
