Other District 3 candidates say Price, Caraway fight an embarrassment

The two other candidates in the Dallas County Commissioners race for District 3 said Tuesday the fight between John Wiley Price and Dwaine Caraway was an embarrassment to the city of dallas.

Micah B. Phillips and Cedric Davis also see the incident as a golden opportunity to finally get out from behind the shadows of the two larger-than-life politicians.

Former Balch Springs mayor and former police chief Cedric Davis was seated in between Price and Caraway at the Dallas radio station during a roundtable when things started getting confrontational.

“It's been a whirlwind,” Davis said of the publicity the fight generated. “I got a new nickname and it's the peacemaker.”

Davis said things were tense from the start, with allegations about domestic violence fired off between Phillips and Caraway. During a commercial break, Sandbranch - a poor-unincorporated area of Dallas County came up, and Phillips says that's when Caraway popped off.

“He asked Dwaine, if you are going to tell the Sandbranch story, tell the facts. Dwaine Caraway hauled off and said F-you N-,” Phillips said.

Philips claims he’s gotten death threats for releasing video of the fight. The rest of the video - a yelling, profanity filled melee with caraway making accusations of a sexual nature.

“How did that get worked into all this? I don't know. My mouth fell open,” said Davis. “Everybody's heard all the stuff. I was just shocked to hear it because it wasn't about the issues of the people.”

As for the accusation by one of Caraway's staffers that Price tried to choke him, both Davis and Phillips said Price was defending himself.

“It was surprising to me that he was uncharacteristically calm yesterday,” Phillips said.
