Two Northwest ISD students were taken to the hospital Thursday morning after their bus crashed.

The school district confirmed there were 47 people on board when the bus collided with a car in front of Northwest High School. The bus was headed to Gene Pike Middle School, which is nearby.

MedStar officials said several students and the two drivers were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Two were taken to the hospital, but their injuries were not serious.

Northwest ISD said another bus eventually took the remaining students to school. Their parents will be notified about the accident.

"I think it would be safe to say they were scared. But we are very grateful. We are very grateful that they are safe. That's the most important thing," said Emily Conklin, the district's spokeswoman.

Police said the car that hit the bus did catch fire, but firefighters quickly put it out.
