Online threat prompts added security at Fort Worth school

There will be extra security at a Fort Worth high school because of a social media threat.

On Sunday, someone who calls himself assassinoffortworth posted a photo of a rifle on Instagram. It had a caption that said in part, “I am going to shoot up Eastern Hills High School tomorrow.” The post also claimed “many lives will be lost” but “God will protect me.”

The principal of Eastern Hills High School sent a message to parents late Sunday to alert them of the situation.

A spokesman for the Fort Worth Independent School District said the picture of the rifle is a generic photo that was taken from the internet and has been used in other contexts.

The school district’s intel unit and school resource unit are investigating the validity of the threat.

The spokesman did not elaborate on the additional security measures being taken but said students will notice an increased police presence on the campus Monday.

Fort Worth ISD is working with the city’s police department to find the person responsible for the post.

The district is also getting the word out that it believes everyone will be safe at school Monday.
