DALLAS - Dallas Area Rapid Transit trains won’t be running through Downtown Dallas on the weekends for the next six months.
Beginning Saturday, DART will suspend rail service between the Union, Victory, West End, Akard, St. Paul, Pearl/Arts District and Deep Ellum stations each weekend.
Those traveling through Downtown Dallas will be forced to board shuttle buses at the train stations. Five new shuttle routes will be in operation and red signs on the platforms will point riders to the bus stops.
Workers will use the downtime to replace the worn tracks along Pacific Avenue and Bryan Street, as well as repair crossovers, streets and drainage along the rail corridor.
Although it may be an inconvenience for riders in the short term, DART said in the long run the improvements will create a smoother ride for passengers through Downtown Dallas.
The work should also eliminate ongoing maintenance issues and reduce service disruption, DART said.
The work is scheduled to be complete in September before the State Fair of Texas.
Service on the weekdays will not be affected.
