One dead, another stabbed in Dallas domestic incident-house fire

Dallas police are investigating a stabbing at a Lake Highlands home that was on fire. They say the stabbing victim was pulled out of the home before flames engulfed it. The stabbing suspect, who believed to have started the fire, was found dead.

Firefighters found the suspect's body inside the house on Gunnison Drive Wednesday afternoon. One person was stabbed but police haven't said anything about their condition. The medical examiner and crime scene investigators are trying to determine how the suspect inside died.

Firefighters say when they got to the home, the garage and car were on fire and they had to wait until they got the go-ahead from police to go inside.

Police were responding to a stabbing call. They managed to get the victim out of the house but couldn't find the stabbing suspect. Police have not said whether the victim is a man or a woman.

Neighbors say they saw police surround the home with guns drawn during the incident and were told to stay inside their homes and away from windows for their safety as police tried to locate the suspect.

Firefighters say the fire spread through the garage into the kitchen while police were trying to get the situation under control.

“We showed up, and we saw smoke billowing out from the house. The police were on location,” explained firefighter Joe Wilson. “It started off as an aggravated assault, so they were trying to secure the area for us. So that delayed our response.”

Neighbors say middle-aged couple lives at the home with their adult son.

Police have yet to identify the suspect. His body was taken to the medical examiner's officer who will determine the cause of death.

Firefighters are also still trying to figure out where and how the fire started.
