Officer's caring move for a mother in need

A mother going through a hard time expected the worst when two police officers pulled her over.

Instead of giving her multiple tickets, they took her shopping.

Sterling Nichols and her two young daughters were in the process of moving yesterday evening when they were pulled over by Crowley police officer Cesar Robles.

He noticed she had warrants for unpaid tickets.

One was for not having a car seat.

“I started crying. He asked me what was wrong. I’m just said nothing and told him to go ahead and run my name, “said Nichols.

Officer Robles said he noticed her vehicle had a lot of clothes and belongings in it.

“Ultimately I found out that she had been in a shelter and just recently moved into an apartment complex," said Officer Robles.

In a totally unexpected move, Officer Robles and another officer, Harley Koch, asked Nichols if she would follow him to Walmart so he could buy her kids car seats.

“I just felt that writing her a citation for two kids in the back without a car seat when she's obviously working and trying to do what she's supposed to be doing was just going to add to her problems instead of solving the situation," said Robles

Sterling was moved to tears by the show of generosity.

"They actually cared last night. They bought me a car seat, I'm grateful. We needed them," said an emotional Sterling.

The officers did issue Nichols a ticket but she says she is ok with that.

At least, because of their kindness, she likely won’t be getting another one for not having a car seat.
