Victims of assault and robbery in and around the Oak Lawn neighborhood of Dallas met Tuesday night about the recent crimes.
Michael Dominguez helped found Survivors Offering Support after he was attacked while walking home from a bar on Cedar Springs Road on Oct. 2.
In the five weeks since we was attacked, he's formed the support network to help others touched by violence, especially in the LGBT community.
“Just knowing that people know there is a safe place for them to come and talk about whatever it is they need to talk about stemming from their attack, that's what I'm hoping,” said Dominguez.
Dominguez’s case is one of 11 reports of assaults and robberies in and around the Oak Lawn neighborhood since September.
In addition to the support group, there are efforts to improve security.
This week, a Kroger store on Cedar Springs responded to a community petition to repair lights that were out, and some bar owners are pledging to add surveillance cameras pointed toward the street and alleys, where some of the attacks have happened.
