North Texas teams play for first state titles

It is high school football championship weekend in Texas and two North Texas teams are celebrating for the first time.

The Lone Star Rangers are the first Frisco ISD team to play for a state title.

There will be a pep rally for the players Friday morning as they boarded a bus for Houston. They’ll take on Cedar Park for the Class 5A Division II title.

Fans in Brock, west of Fort Worth, are already celebrating a Class 3A Division state championship.

Thursday night in Houston the Eagles erased a 13-point deficit thanks to three touchdowns from Leddy French. The team beat Cameron Yoe 43 to 33.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling. It was an emotional game. We didn’t come out and play like we had hoped. But we came out with a victory and that’s all you can hope for,” French said.

Amazingly, this is only the second season that Brock has even had a varsity football team.
