Name calling, finger pointing continues in Dallas County Commissioner's race

The final days of the Dallas County Commissioner’s race in District 3 continued to devolve into name calling and finger pointing on Thursday.

One candidate suggested that Dwaine Caraway was mentally unstable and Caraway called John Wiley Price and fellow challenger Micah B. Phillips “gangsters.” Earlier this week was the fight between Caraway and Price at a gospel radio station.

Phillips said Thursday he wants the Democratic Party to declare Dwaine Caraway ineligible to be the party nominee.

“I feel that he has become delusional,” Phillips said. “He's shown to be mentally unstable.”

Phillips was referring to Caraway’s conversation on the Sports Radio 1310-The Ticket where he alleged Phillips and Price set him up to get in a fight at the radio debate. Phillips believes the incident showed Caraway can't handle his emotions or the pressure and stress that comes with this race.

Caraway pushed back on the instability claims and pointed the finger at Phillips and Price.

“We're dealing with some gangsters, some people that set us up and they are bullies,” Caraway said on Thursday.

Caraway, who had not turned in campaign finance reports on time, said he didn’t because he was trying to protect his supporters from Phillips and Price.

“They are gangsters. They shot up my house, they shot up my buses, they set us up at the radio station, they've threatened us and I’m going to try to protect as many people as I possibly can,” Caraway said. “[Price] and Micah that other guy, they are con artists and they are not to be trusted.”

Incumbent commissioner price denied conspiring with Phillips to crater Caraway's campaign

“I never colluded about anything and again, I mean he's delusional but again all of the evidence says that and unfortunately he's just coming apart at the seams,” Price said.

Early voting in the contentious primary ends on Friday and Election Day is on Tuesday.
