Multiple water lines in Everman break due to heavy rains

Schools and homes in Everman were without water Friday after water lines shifted and broke due to heavy rains.

Everman officials said the water line breaks left at least a third of its population of 6,000 without water. The city reported at least six water line breaks since Thursday afternoon and was hopeful repair work could be done within 24 hours.

Everman High School and Bishop Elementary were without water all day. EHS dismissed early, but kids at Bishop Elementary were kept in classes until parents could pick them up.

"They gave them bottled water and stuff like that,” said mom Amanda Lee. “It's been off all day, they're trying to fix it.”

Everman ISD said kids at Bishop Elementary were taken to a school a block away to use the restroom.

"You never know what might happen if you got to go right that moment,” said kindergarten parent Torsha Soloman. “Hopefully I have water cause I'm just down the street.”

Because of low water pressure in the water system, Everman has issued a water boil notice. It's a hardship for residents, but for some young students, it was an early start to the weekend.

"Just go have fun, pet my dog and play with my toys and all of that,” kindergartener Fredrick Green said.

Crews will be working through the night on Friday to fix the breaks.
