Mom arrested after false report leads to Amber Alert

Grand Prairie police are warning the public after someone filed a false police report that led to an Amber Alert.

On Friday, Margarita Levrie told police that her car had been stolen with two children, including a 10-month-old baby, inside. An Amber Alert was issued.

Police later discovered only part of the story was true. There was a 4-year-old child in the stolen car but that child was dropped off about a block from where the car was taken.

Officers continued to search for the car thinking a baby was inside. It turns out there was no baby.

“You know, that’s just wasting their time. I mean, they could have solved the one and attended to other things,” said Frances Knight, who lives nearby.

Grand Prairie Police Chief Steve Dye said false reports will not be tolerated. They waste taxpayer money and divert police resources from people who really need them.

Levrie was arrested.
