Footage from Sky4 showed to men sitting on the flipped vehicles in the middle of the river.
Fort Worth swift water rescue personnel responded to the scene and saved the men one at a time. Each man was given a lifejacket and got back to shore with the help of a rope and a rescuer.
Fire department officials said both men were in their 30s.
"We were just trying to cross the river and the ATVs got taken up from underneath us," said Rudy Gomez. "It was cold it was real cold."
The current was so strong it pushed them downstream and flipped their vehicles until they got caught on something in the river. The cell phone of one of the men somehow still worked and he was able to call 911 for help about 6 p.m.
Fire officials estimated the men were trapped in the water for about an hour.
The two men were not injured in the incident – just cold from the water and embarrassed about what happened.
Gomez said he would look back on the incident and wonder "Why did my buddy call 911. I think we could've gotten out on our own."
