Melissa High band director accused of sexual assault

A Collin County band director has been accused of sexually assaulting a student.

Michael Eugene Reddell was arrested and charged with having an improper relationship with a student and sexual assault.

He was the band director at Melissa High School.

According to police documents, one incident happened on campus.

Police say Reddell has admitted to the charges.

Melissa ISD police wrote that a student told police Reddell touched her inappropriately in the band office.

Police wrote that "Reddell admitted that he touched her [private parts] under her clothing” and that the "incident began with texting eight or nine months ago and progressed to touching this spring and summer.”

Police say that the student is 16.

Melissa ISD published an announcement on its website Wednesday, welcoming the new band director, but made no mention of Reddell's arrest until later Wednesday with a follow-up post, quoting the superintendent as saying "We are all interested to see what will be revealed through a thorough police investigation” and adding the district works to promote a wholesome and healthy environment for all students.
