DALLAS - With so many early deals, Cyber Monday may be losing its appeal.
The Monday after Thanksgiving is traditionally the busiest online shopping day of the year. But this year many retailers released discounts on Friday.
By one estimate, online shoppers spent more than $3 billion Friday. That’s up 21 percent from last year.
Amazon is geared up for Cyber Monday. Warehouse workers at the fulfillment center in Haslet are prepared for an influx of shoppers to visit the site.
Robots will be added to the workflow this year to speed up the process.
“They’re actually bringing the items to the associates to pick at the ergonomically sound stations and so it makes them more efficient so that processes that would have taken hours before can take a mere minute,” said Amanda IP, an Amazon spokeswoman.
Last year Amazon broke Cyber Monday records, selling about 630 items per second, or 54 million items in total.
