Mansfield gas leak prompts neighborhood evacuation

Families are being allowed back in their homes after a gas leak was reported in Mansfield.

Atmos Energy said a construction crew hit a 6-inch natural gas line Wednesday afternoon in the area around Matlock Road and Chretien Point Drive.

About 57 homes were evacuated as a precaution and Atmos said it helped to find accommodations for some of the families in those homes.

Some residents tweeted out photos of a large hole in the ground and a crew working on the pipe.

Atmos said workers were able to make repairs and people were allowed back into their homes early Thursday morning.
