Man wanted for stealing identity of dead Dallas neighbor arrested in California

A man wanted for allegedly stealing the identity of his dead neighbor, then selling his home was arrested Thursday by U.S. Marshalls in Los Angeles.

Christopher Brian Colbert, 43 was being held in California on Thursday afternoon awaiting extradition.

Dallas police said Colbert made more than $100,000 dollars from selling his dead neighbor’s home on Winnetka Avenue last June.

A few months later, renovators discovered the remains of the actual owner -- 57-year-old Ronald Shumway -- in the home's backyard.

At this point, Colbert is only charged with identity fraud. Police have not charged him with Shumway's murder.
