A young man stabbed his mother and brother to death in Plano early Friday before turning the knife on himself.
Plano police said the incident happened at 12:30 a.m. Friday inside a residence in the 3100 block of Communications Parkway.
When police arrived they found a dead 17-year-old male and adult female inside the residence and a 19-year-old alive with multiple stab wounds. The 19-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries after he repeatedly stabbed himself and later died.
The two victims were identified as mother Stacy Fawcett and son Josiah Utu, 17. The dead attacker was ID'd as McCann Utu, 19.
Fawcett was a culinary enthusiast who did cooking segments on local TV and radio. Friends at the scene said the dead 17-year-old was a student-athlete at Plano West Senior High School.
Family friends tell FOX the Utu has suffered from two traumatic head injuries several years ago and had not been mentally stable since. Police say they are aware of that but are not yet speculating whether it played a factor in the murders.
