RICHARDSON, Texas - Texas lawmakers will vote Thursday on a plan to memorialize a fall Richardson police officer.
The Texas House is set to vote on naming the part of Highway 75 that runs through Richardson after Officer David Sherrard. If it is approved, it will be called the Officer David Sherrard Memorial Highway.
In February of last year, Officer Sherrard was shot and killed six seconds after he entered an apartment to investigate a disturbance call. He was the first Richardson officer killed in the line of duty.
Brandon McCall, the man accused of killing both the officer and his roommate, was indicted on two counts of capital murder and seven counts of aggravated assault on a public servant.
According to court documents, when asked why he shot at officers, McCall said: "because I wanted to."
Prosecutors plan to see the death penalty.
