Kidnapping suspect arrested at Dallas motel

A man who allegedly kidnapped a woman and shot her dog surrendered to Dallas police Friday morning.

The woman told police she got into an argument with her boyfriend Thursday afternoon. While they fought, he pulled out a gun and shot her dog. She said he also slapped her in the face and forced her into a car with him.

The woman was able to call for help and officers tried to pull them over for a traffic stop. Officers found the woman in the car, but police said her boyfriend fled on foot.

They later found him at the Southern Crown Motel on Mouser Lane in east Oak Cliff. He surrendered as the SWAT team arrived around 2 a.m. Friday.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Zachery Mitchell, is now facing charges for aggravated kidnapping, cruelty to animals and the unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police said at last check the dog was in stable condition.
