Kaufman Co. coach and volunteer accused in child sex case

A youth baseball coach in Kaufman County is accused of sexually abusing a boy for years.

Edward Mann was arrested Tuesday on two counts of continuous sexual assault of a child. He was booked into the Kaufman County jail and his bond was set at $25,000.

The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office said a victim recently came forward to say Mann, who was his former youth league baseball coach, sexually abused him over a span of several years. He was 12 years old when the alleged abuse started.

Investigators seized electronics and digital media from Mann’s home as evidence in the case.

Mann is reportedly well-known in the unincorporated community of Ables Springs, near Terrell. He is the long-time fire chief for the Ables Springs Volunteer Fire Department and has also volunteered as an athletic trainer at Terrell High School.

The sheriff’s office plans to interview other children to see if there were any other victims.
