Irving police say a teen, barely old enough to drive, lead authorities on a high speed chase across six cities, reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

At first, police thought they were chasing a man armed with a gun who had carjacked two women. It wasn't until later they found out the person behind the wheel was actually a 16-year old with an airsoft gun.

The chase started when the teen allegedly approached two women as they were unloading groceries at their Irving apartment late Wednesday night and took their car at gunpoint. Police caught up with him minutes later, but he wasn't stopping.

The chase began after midnight with little traffic, minimizing the risk of hurting anyone else. But the driver is seen on dash cam turning and driving on the wrong way down the road as he tried to avoid police.

The chase went through Farmers Branch, Garland, Mesquite, Balch Springs and Dallas. Other police agencies jumped in at times to help before it finally ended in Seagoville.

Despite having two flat tires, he still tried to go off road before stopping in the front yard of a home.

“It was so fast. I was like blind,” the robbery victim said. “I couldn't see anything. And we were holding the groceries in our hands.”

Police later discovered the gun pointed at the women was an airsoft gun, but that does little to put the victims at ease.

Even though the gun was fake, the 16-year-old is still facing felony charges, evading arrest and aggravated robbery

Police will not be releasing his identity since he's a juvenile.
