Ice Rink project in Mansfield may be back on

The plans for a new Stars Center ice rink in Mansfield may be back on.

The plans were dropped when the school district backed out of funding part of it but now the mayor hopes someone else will step in and pay the bill.

Trying to get a Dr. Pepper Stars Center in Mansfield has been a challenge for Jenny Conrad.

The process stalled weeks ago.

"I think it'll be so great for our community it'll put us on the map" said Conrad.

Now after a conversation with the CEO of Baylor Orthopedic and Spine Hospital in Arlington there's hope.

Conrad says Alan Beck expressed an interest in possibly kicking in the needed $1.8 million.

The ice center was given the green light by the Mansfield City Council early last month on one condition: Mansfield ISD would need to agree to put up part of the $12 million cost.

At a February 18th public hearing the school board heard plenty of opposition to using taxpayer dollars on the project.

No commitments have been formally made, and there have been no official meetings between Baylor, the Dallas Stars or the city.

The city will meet with Baylor on the 23rd of this month.

It could go before the council as early as the 28th.
