Hometown Hero: Betty Ann Charles

Betty Ann Charles has volunteered at Cook Children's Medical Center for five years and helps out kids with arts and crafts.

Under the direction of Child Life Specialists, Betty Ann, gets the young patients to be creative. The day I met her they made purple, green and gold harlequin stick puppets for Mardi Gras.

The Arlington grandmother drives to Fort Worth twice a week to help give good medicine in the form of play therapy.

Betty Ann is one of more than 14-hundred volunteers who donated more than 100,000 volunteer hours in 2014. She told me her volunteer service is an extremely rewarding part of her life, in a place that's filled with joy.
