Homeowner shoots at suspected burglar

Home surveillance video captured a bold burglary suspect's second attempt at stealing from a home, after the last one sent him running for his life.

Dallas police say the man has hit at least two homes in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood of Dallas. Victims say it's only a matter of time before he targets the wrong house.

Pam Miller was home when the crook hit. She says the man kicked in her front door. She ran into her bedroom's bathroom, grabbed a pistol and called 911. The man kicked in her bedroom door and then tried to kick down the bathroom door where Miller was hiding. That's when she fired a shot through the middle of the door. She missed, but it sent the intruder running with a wedding ring and some cash.

Miller says the most valuable thing he took was her sense of security.

Just after midnight Christmas morning police say the criminal tried to hit another home just a few blocks away. This time, the homeowner and her kids were sleeping inside. Surveillance video shows the suspect grab a purse and pace around the house several times. He tried to steal the TV without leaving fingerprints but couldn't get it off the wall, leaving with only a few items.

Victims want to remind potential burglars that many people have guns and are prepared to defend themselves.
