A Grapevine father was arrested after he fired a shotgun toward the ground to break up a group of teens near his home late Wednesday.

Grapevine police said one of those teens was hit by buck shot that ricocheted. Cops were called to the neighborhood near Cross Timbers Middle School and Grapevine High School around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

Witnesses said two groups of teens had gathered in the street and were in an argument outside 43-year-old Jason Marcum’s home. Marcum son was among the crowd, police said. Investigators believe the two groups involved nine to 12 teenagers who ranged in age from 16 to 19.

Police said Marcum came outside armed with a shotgun and fired at least four shells into the ground. A 17-year-old boy was hit in the leg, sending him to the hospital with minor injuries. He was later released.

Marcum was taken into custody and charged with deadly conduct. He was released Thursday afternoon on a $2,500 bond.

“I don’t think I prefer to comment, guys,” Marcum said after his release. “Just a little bit of commotion, trying to get people to go on about their way and leave.”
