Home surveillance camera captures burglary in Mesquite

Mesquite police are working to find a suspect, caught on camera breaking into a home.

The man is seen kicking John Robertson’s French doors open on Canyon Drive, in broad daylight on Saturday.

Robertson says the break-in was captured by chance. His alarm company offered him one free camera when he renewed his security monitoring contract last month. He had them install it in the kitchen, giving him a clear view of his back door, and the burglar.

Once inside, an alarm goes off and the suspect runs out of frame. Robertson believes he went into the master bedroom. Robertson says the man grabbed some cash and was back outside in under two minutes.

Mesquite police dusted for fingerprints but couldn’t lift a usable one. Robertson posted the video online in hopes it will help police catch the burglar before he does the same thing to someone else.

His alarm company will be back out to his house next week to install cameras around the outside of his house as well.
