Grandfather rescues toddler aftering falling into well

VAN, Texas -- A grandfather rescued a toddler after he fell 30 feet into a well in Van, about 75 miles east of Dallas.

Van fire officials said the well on a private property had a brittle concrete cover on it that fell in when the child climbed on top of it Saturday. The 3-year-old fell 30 feet to the surface of the water. His grandfather was nearby and went down to the well himself and saved the toddler.

Rescue crews arrived to find both the boy and his grandfather safe and sound. However, firefighters urged people not to follow their lead. They said it's especially difficult to pull people from wells and it's best for professional rescuers to handle the task.
