Gas explosion suspected of starting fire in Dallas

There was an apparent explosion during a late night house fire at a home in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas.

It happened around 10:00 p.m. in the 2500 block of Evelyn Street, according to Jason Evans with Dallas Fire Rescue.

Several people in the area called 911 including one person who stated that something “just blew up”.

When they arrived, firefighters found bricks, windows, burglar bars and other items lying around one location, indicating they had been blown from the home, Evans said.

When firefighters made it inside, they put out a fire in a bathroom, coming from underneath the bathtub.

There were 6 people inside the home at the time of the incident, including one person who was in bathroom, where the fire is believed to have started.

That person was taken to the hospital for treatment. Their condition has not been released.

Everyone else in the house was unharmed, but the house has significant structural damage.

Investigators believe the fire was started accidentally, likely the result of a gas explosion, Evans said.
