Garland police released a sketch of a man who sexually assaulted a teenage girl last week behind a busy stretch of businesses.
Police said the teenager was walking in the 1300 block of Northwest Highway on July 18 when she went behind some businesses along her route. Police say that’s when suspect driving a dark sedan parked his car ahead of her and then attacked.
“The suspect was driving around and looking for an opportunity and, unfortunately, took it,” said Garland Police Officer Pedro Barineau.
Investigators said the suspect is a thin, black man about 5 feet 4 to 5 feet 6 inches tall with short hair and had a stubble beard.
Police say the child predator took off. She was able to make it to a nearby store to call 911 and describe him to detectives.
The department said it’s confident about the rendering based on the description given by the teen girl.
“The victim is actually distraught,” Barineau said. “This is a circumstance that nobody should have to go through.”
Police previously released surveillance video they said shows the suspect vehicle leaving the area. It’s believed to be a black 2013 Hyundai Elantra.
Investigators at this point have not connected the suspect to any other crimes.
