Hometown Hero: Princess Pimentel

17-year-old Princess Pimentel wants to be a pediatric nurse.  Her mom is a geriatric nurse.

In 2016, Princess was in her first year as a volunteer at Charlton Methodist Medical Center in Oak Cliff. She takes books and pillows and ice and water to patients.

One day, she decided to go out of her way to give ice and water to every patient. That's when she met Gloria Jean Rhodes.

Princess called her Miss Gloria, and they struck up a friendship. She was in the hospital for diabetes and kidney disease. They had five conversations.

Princess said Miss Gloria had a "happy heart" despite her illness. Princess said Miss Gloria cared about her as a volunteer and was glad she wanted to help people in need.

On August 16, 2016, the mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died unexpectedly at home. Gloria Jean Rhodes was 75 years old.

Despite the shock and sadness, Princess was grateful for their friendship and knows where her friend is.

Princess is ending her second year as a volunteer at Charlton Methodist Medical Center. She's preparing to start her college career at Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma. She'll carry her friendship with Miss Gloria through her life and use it to help her patients.
