Four teens arrested for Waxahachie gun store burglary

Four teenagers are accused of stealing more than a dozen guns from a Waxahachie store. While most of the suspects have been arrested, investigators only found a small fraction of the stolen guns.

It was a bold break-in that stunned a former Waxahachie police chief turned gun shop owner.

“I don't know their motivation for it,” said Chuck Edge, owner of Shooter’s Edge. “I don't know what drove them to commit the offense and commit the offense in the fashion that they did.”

Investigators say seven men used a stolen pickup truck to barrel through the gun shop on July 10, swiping 17 weapons, some of them high-powered, in under a minute.

Police recovered three of the guns that were stolen. The guns were found on Thursday at an undisclosed location, along with four of the suspects, thanks to help from the public.

“We did have some tips from the video we got released,” said Waxahachie PD Lt. Todd Woodruff. “There was some people that recognized one of those individuals and from there, it kind of broke wide open.”

With help from Dallas police and the ATF, Waxahachie police arrested Xavier Kirvin, 19, Virgillo Cherry, 17, Demarcus Dillard, 17, and Deontae Jennings, 17.

Detectives are releasing few details about the bust, since the investigation is still active. Several suspects and 14 weapons are still out on the streets.

“I'd just like to have them off the streets,” said Woodruff. “Because with current things going on, it’s obviously not a good situation for those guns to be out there with folks that obviously didn't get a background check.”

The suspects are each charged with engaging in organized crime and being held on a $100,000 bond. Jennings is out on bail.

The owner of the gun store isn't sure when he'll be able to reopen.
