A Fort Worth mother says she doesn't understand why her son was killed last Friday in Fort Worth.

Chaz Gilley was on his bicycle when he was struck by a car and then shot. The 18-year-old died over the weekend.

Chesala Markham is in search of answers as to why someone would want to brutally kill her son.

"Chaz is a sweet kid. He doesn't have problems with anybody,” she said. “All he wanted to do was make people laugh and smile. Whoever did this to my baby, they took an amazing young man before his time, and it was senseless!"

Markham says her son was riding his mountain bike Friday afternoon near the intersection of East Berry Street and Canberra Court when someone in a vehicle struck him and shot him. She says Gilley had been on his way home after going to pay a cell phone bill at a Cricket office about a mile from the crime scene.

"There’s a possibility he could've been targeted for a robbery,” Markham explained. We don't know if maybe he had an altercation with somebody like maybe he cut them off on the bike. Maybe it was a road rage. Right now, it’s all up in the air of what it could be."

Fort Worth police say they're following leads, and detectives are closely guarding details, revealing only that a witness took Gilley to a nearby fire station after he was shot multiple times.

In the meantime, his sisters are grieving and want the killer or killers caught.

"If anybody has any information, just try and come forward,” said Kelsey Sanderson.

“We just want to know why someone chose to take someone from us,” said Alaura Gilley. “He would do anything for us, just a great person."

A vigil and balloon release was held for Chaz Monday afternoon.

Police have not released a suspect or vehicle description.
