Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo opens

For many people the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is tradition that represents the heart and soul of Texas. It got underway Friday morning at the Will Rogers Center.

Among the events during the first few hours was a horse riding competition, highlighting the skills needed on a working ranch.

About 100,000 are expected to celebrate cowboy culture with the All-Western Parade through downtown Fort Worth at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Over the course of the stock show more than 30 rodeo performances are scheduled, featuring some of the world's top professional rodeo athletes.

And, of course, the junior livestock competition will draw in more than 11,000 young people from all over Texas.

The 119th annual stock show runs through Feb. 7.
